Sawasdee Ka! Five-star food treatment is exactly what we got
after visiting the award winning Sukhothai restaurant in Leeds last night.
Meaning the ‘dawn of happiness’ Sukhothai did exactly that – as both of us were
overwhelmed with the quality of food and service which was presented to us.

We settled at our seats in the busy restaurant located on
the South Parade in Leeds. We ordered drinks – namely the bottled Chang so familiar
with this fabulous part of south east Asia - before reading through the menu
and ordering our food this evening. It must be noted that the list of food at
Sukhothai is extensive and truly authentic (owner and head chef Ban
Kaewkraikhot opened her first UK restaurant in 2002 in Chapel Allerton
following 8 years of running her restaurant in Bangkok).
Having decided our starters, we were not waiting long until
we were served our food. First up was a Satay Gai consisting of skewered and
grilled tender chicken served with a deliciously smooth peanut sauce. We also opted for the equally delicious and
crispy battered Gung Chup Pang Tod (tiger prawns) decorated with salad leaves
and a sweet chilli sauce.

With another round of drinks ordered and, on this occasion,
a cool and guilt free school night Mojito Mocktail – life in south east Asia
felt that one step closer when our next order arrived. The deep fried sliced
chicken breast in creamy red sauce with Thai basil and lime leaf was the dish
we had been imagining. We had simply been spoilt for choice this evening but
could not have made a better choice with this fabulous dish. Alongside the
chicken, we also dined on the brilliant beef X1 Pad Nam Prik Pao which was made
up with a delicate hint of chilli oil alongside sweet basil, mushroom, onion
and carrot. The more familiar to many Pad Thai accompanied our main course and
like the rest of the food tonight it proved exceptional in taste and quality
throughout – in fact everything tonight tasted just as we remembered from our
visits across Thailand.
Having been named as one of the top ten Thai restaurants in
the country by The Times and The Sunday Times as well as being listed in the
Michelin Guide – a visit to the amazing Sukhothai should not be missed. With
restaurants across Harrogate and Leeds – Thailand never tasted so close to
home.
